Breakfast musing
Our new toaster has settings from 1 to 7 for "doneness". I like my toast "medium", so I tried to make it that way. At 3 1/2 my toast was as dark as could be without calling it burnt. Why do we have 7 settings? Do other people actually like their toast burnt black? Why not just eat a hunk of charcoal? And anyway its supposed to "sense" doneness or something, so why ask me what number I want anyway? Ok, enough musing. I'll drink my tea and go to work.

The hard part is that watching thing. I turn my back for a minute and boom! charcoal. You know I'm the one who has to set a timer to remember how long I've steeped a cup of tea...
You should feel lucky that you have buttons on your toaster. For years we had a rubber band to hold it on. It wasn't until our daughter told us how embarrassed she was to have guests see our do-it-yourself toaster that we thought it might be a good idea to get a new one. After all rubber bands are pretty cheap and plentiful. But even with our new one, we keep it set at one setting and keep popping it up and down until we hit the desired browness. Maybe we should all revert to bread on a stick over the stove burners! RA
Maybe we should go back to the bread on a stick over a stove burner. It's probably just as reliable.
My grandmother used to use the broiler on her stove and I laughed, but I think she had it right!
